We had a visit from the road safety team to tie in with our transport topic. The children learnt all about crossing the road safely as well as how to be safe when riding a bike scooter and in the car.
They also thought about floating and sinking by making their own boats and predicting which ones would float as well as adapting their own boats if they didnt quite make it accross the water.
This week the children will continue Stage 3 of the Floppy’s Phonics programme and will be introduced to the phonemes ear and air (as in glue). We will be using these sounds and those learnt so far to blend the sounds (push sounds together) to read words and segment (break sounds up) in a word to spell.
We will introduce/review the next set of tricky/high frequency words this week: time and asked. Also, as usual, we will also be reviewing the tricky words learnt to date.
Literacy and Topic
This week we will continue with recounts, this week looking at recounting the school day. The children will be using time words to start their sentences such as first, then, later, after, eventually etc; we will also encourage the children to use adjectives as well as conjunctions within their sentences to extend them, such as because, and, but.
This week, the children will begin to learn about time initially concentrating on timing each other; how many jumps can they do in a minute? Then we will begin to look at telling the time through O Clock and some of us will look at how to show half past on clocks.
We will also look at different ways to make ten using lids, sausages and beans!
Have a wonderful weekend!
