The Measure of Things!28 Apr 2022The Measure of Things!

This week

In numeracy, we have continued measuring, and have measured all manner of things! The week started with children measuring different items around the class using different objects such as paperclips, match sticks and cubes, and then compared their lengths.

They also enjoyed investigating sound by creating recycled instruments and then using them to perform a song in groups to each other

Next week

This week the children will continue Stage 3 of the Floppy’s Phonics programme and will be introduced to the phonemes ur and ow. We will be using these sounds and those learnt so far to blend the sounds (push sounds together) to read words and segment (break sounds up) in a word to spell.

We will introduce/review the next set of tricky/high frequency words this week: about and house. Also, as usual, we will also be reviewing the tricky words learnt to date.

Literacy and Topic

This week we will take the children to stand outside the school to conduct a traffic survey to look at the types of cars that pass our school. They will compare them according to size and type and record them in a tally sheet. This will then form the basis to their next recount.

During RE we will be listening and responding to the story of Jesus appearing to his disciples.

This week we begin a unit on weight, the children will begin by comparing weight by feeling objects and then move onto using pan scales to look at which items are heavier and lighter.

The children will also consolidate their understanding of the composition of 5 using Numicon plates and ten frames.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Best wishes
