Kung Hei Fat Choi!23 Feb 2018Kung Hei Fat Choi!

This week

There was an exciting start to the week as children went on board a plane to China! They came into class with wealth of Chinese themed activities and resources to investigate including their own Chinese restaurant table!

They participated in lot of activities over the week including making kites and Chinese lanterns.

On Thursday they enjoyed a trip to Lucky Red take away where we picked up some delicious noodles courtesy of Jenny parents. They were so yummy!

The week ended with a dragon dance workshop which the children thoroughly enjoyed and performed to visiting grown-ups. Very impressive!

Next Week

Phonics

This week the children will be introduced to the phonemes dge as in bridge, wh as in wheel. We will be using these sounds and those learnt so far to blend the sounds (push sounds together) to read words and segment (break sounds up) in a word to spell.

We will introduce the next set of tricky/high frequency words this week: now, for and what. Also, as usual, we will also be reviewing the tricky words learnt to date.

Literacy

This half term we will be looking at the features of  non-chronological and newspaper reports;  the focus over the next two weeks will be dinosaurs. The children will start the half term writng a newspaper report. We will then continue the half term on non-chronological reports. The children will think about how they can improve reports by adding adjectives such as sharp claws and long tails as well as conjunctions such as and, because, but.. They will also gather information by asking adults and friends what they know about dinosaurs.

Numeracy

This week we will begin looking more closely at shapes, initially over the next two weeks we will be learning the names and properties of 2D (flat) shapes. This week the children will be learning the names of 2D shapes as well as sorting 2D shapes and creating pictures and patterns with them.

Topic

As you will no doubt have heard or seen, we received a delivery of eggs this week which have now hatched into chicks! The children will therefore spend next week learning about the cycle of egg to chick and how to care for them.

Have a great weekend!

See you on Monday
