The children have been learning about the different people in their community that look after us to make sure we stay safe. They learnt all about the different roles that doctors, nurses, firefighters and police officers have to do in the jobs.
They also enjoyed visits from the local Police and Fire station complete with vehicles.
This week the children will continue Stage 3 of the Floppy’s Phonics programme and will be introduced to the phonemes ue (as in glue) and ure (as in pure). We will be using these sounds and those learnt so far to blend the sounds (push sounds together) to read words and segment (break sounds up) in a word to spell.
We will introduce/review the next set of tricky/high frequency words this week: people and out. Also, as usual, we will also be reviewing the tricky words learnt to date.
Literacy and Topic
We will be celebrating the Queens Jubilee throughout the week including a party at the end of the wee and so in literacy the children will be writing invitations which will include a recount of what we will be doing at the party.
During RE the children will continue their Easter stories by learning about the story of Ascension and Pentecost.
During the week our measurements block continues with capacity, the children will use language such as full, empty half full and half empty. They will also solve problems such as: How many cotton reels does it take to fill a bucket? or Which container holds more? How can we find out?
