In literacy the children wrote their own versions of Cinderella where they changed different things such as: the fairy godmother, the transport that took Cinderella to the ball and what kind of shoe Cinderella lost when she ran away.
They came up with some great ideas and fantastic sentences!
They have also shown some wonderful understanding of the story of Jesus and the Children.
Also, the children have been very excited about quickly the cress has grown and they enjoyed the fruits of their labour by tucking into cress sandwiches!
They also had a wonderful time when Tiny Tales and Tunes visited on Thursday afternoon. All the photos of the afternoon are on this class page.
What a BUSY week the children have had!
After the Holidays
This week the children will be introduced to the phonemes ve and nk. We will be using these sounds and those learnt so far to blend the sounds (push sounds together) to read words and segment (break sounds up) in a word to spell.
We will also review the words learnt so far to embed them further before continuing with any more key words.
As we begin our new theme for this half term which centres around animals, minibeasts and dinosaurs ”Dinosaurs Big, Minibeasts Small!” the literacy focus will be on report writing. The children will research dinosaurs to write their own information text later adding a labelled diagram of a dinosaur. They will learn vocabulary to be able to use in their writing such as ate, claws, carnivore, herbivore etc.
The children will now move onto investigating the numbers 6,7 and 8 as well as enjoying some dinosaur themed doubling on World Book Day!
As well as this we will be investigating 2d and 3d shapes over the half term, please could you support your child in learning the names of basic 2d and 3d shapes as this will help them once we learn their properties.
The week we come back we will be going to church on Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of Lent. We will write our own Lenten promises on crosses to reflect on what we could do to show our love for Jesus.
Enjoy the half term break and we shall see you all again on Monday February 28th.
