In literacy the children wrote their own versions of Cinderella where they changed different things such as: the fairy godmother, the transport that took Cinderella to the ball and what kind of shoe Cinderella lost when she ran away.
They came up with some great ideas and fantastic sentences!
Also, during numeracy, children have been showing subtraction through crossing out and using a number line to count back.
They also had a wonderful time when the West Yorkshire Playhouse visited to give a Cinderella workshop. All the photos of the trip are on this class page.
What a BUSY week the children have had!
After the Holidays
This week the children will be introduced to the phonemes ng and dge. We will be using these sounds and those learnt so far to blend the sounds (push sounds together) to read words and segment (break sounds up) in a word to spell.
We will also review the words learnt so far to embed them further before continuing with any more key words.
When we get back we will have a topic week to celebrate Chinese New Year! The children will learn about the different traditions celebrated in China as well as have a trip to a Chinese Take Away to order some Chinese food!
This half term we will be looking at the features of non-chronological and so to begin with the children will learn about some of the different animals from the Chinese Zodiac.
The children will think about how they can improve reports by adding adjectives such as sharp claws and long tails as well as conjunctions such as and, because, but.
This week to tie in with the Chinese New Year topic, the children will use their adding skills to add different items from a Chinese menu.
There are lots of activities planned such as making Chinese lanterns, kites dragons which will conclude with a Chinese dragon dancing workshop.
Have a great half term break; remember that school is closed for a training day on Monday February 19th and so we shall see you all again on Tuesday Feb 20th.
